HRC MOURNS ROXSANA HERNÁNDEZ, TRANSGENDER WOMAN WHO DIED IN ICE DETENTION CENTER: Hernández, 33, passed away from complications from pneumonia while in an ICE detention center in New Mexico. Before her death, Hernández told BuzzFeed she was sexually assaulted in her home country of Honduras and feared for her life. HRC is calling on ICE to conduct a thorough investigation into her death. Hernández’s death raises serious questions regarding the treatment she received while in ICE custody, and we expect ICE to provide answers to those questions. As HRC mourns the loss of Roxsana Hernández, we continue to stand in solidarity with those seeking asylum from violence and prosecution in their home countries.” More from HRC, Advocate and BuzzFeed.
