Legendary singer and songwriter and eight-time Grammy Award nominee Stevie Nicks opens the new Park Theater as the first official performance on December 17. Christening the new venue with The Pretenders, Nicks winds down her three-month North American tour in Las Vegas before heading to Los Angeles for one final show.
Nicks is best known for her work with Fleetwood Mac during the 70’s and an accomplished solo career spanning multiple decades.
The first song Nicks wrote after joining Fleetwood Mac, and notably one of the group’s most popular songs is “Landslide,” making its debut in 1975. Since then, Landslide has been covered by The Smashing Pumpkins, The Dixie Chicks, Miley Cyrus, Lady Antebellum, and even featured in an episode of Glee. But nothing compares to Nicks’ voice as she sings this ballad that went Gold in 2009 and has sold close to 1,5 million copies in the US alone.
A few years later, Nicks wrote “Gypsy,” another Fleetwood Mac hit that chronicled her life before the success of Fleetwood Mac. Nicks lived with boyfriend and future Fleetwood Mac lead guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, and at the time they couldn’t afford a bed frame, so they slept on a single mattress, directly on the floor. Nicks says the mattress was decorated in lace, with a vase and a flower at its side. Whenever she feels her famous life getting to her, she goes “back to her roots,” and takes her mattress off the frame and puts it “back to the floor” and decorates it with “some lace, and paper flowers,” taking her back to the days when she had no wealth—back to herself as a poor gypsy.
In 1981, Nicks came into her own with the release of “Bella Donna,” her first solo album. Where Fleetwood Mac had more of a rock ballad sound, Nicks’ pop-rock influence comes forward with hits like “Edge of Seventeen” and “Stand Back.”
Taking the stage on December 17, Stevie Nicks returns to Las Vegas for the opening of the Park Theater at Monte Carlo Resort & Casino and will no doubt delight the inaugural crowd with nostalgic songs.
Nicks returns to touring after performing 122 sold out shows around the world during a Fleetwood Mac tour spanning 2014-2015.
Her 24 Karat Gold 27-city tour kicked off at the end of October, opening in her hometown of Phoenix, AZ with a set list that includes “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” “Bella Donna,” “If Anyone Falls,” “Edge of Seventeen” and for the first time, “Wild Heart” made its live debut.
Joining Nicks for the Park Theater opening will be The Pretenders. With hit songs like “I’ll Stand By You”, “Back On The Chain Gang” and “Don’t Get Me Wrong.” The band has sold over 25 million albums and founder & leader Chrissie Hynde is one of contemporary music’s greatest songwriters. Hynde most recently released the album Stockholm and a 2015 memoir, Reckless: My Life As a Pretender.
As of November 1, limited tickets were still available at ticketmaster.com. Due to the popularity of Stevie Nicks and the opening of this new Las Vegas venue, this performance is expected to sell out.
