Kevin Fret, a gay Latin trap artist, was killed yesterday in Puerto Rico.

The 24-year-old was reportedly riding his motorcycle in San Juan at 5:30am when he was shot eight times. More details surrounding his death are not known at this time, but police are investigating.

“Kevin was an artistic soul, a big-hearted dreamer. His passion was music, and he still had a lot to do,” said his manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, in an official statement released to the press. “This violence must stop. There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go.”

Fret was considered to be the first openly gay musician in the Latin trap scene, and had only begun making waves on the scene last year, with his single “Soy Asi” (“I’m Like This”).

Speaking to Paper Magazine in April 2018, Fret said he considered himself “a person that doesn’t care what anybody has to say.”

“Young gay guys or young lesbians that are looking at me now like a role model, like wow, if he did it, and he don’t care what anybody else has to say, I can do it.”

The magazine referred to him as “Latin trap’s first openly gay pioneer.”
