Eighteen years following his death, Allan Carr makes his debut on the silver screen. Jeffrey Schwarz's documentary "The Fabulous Allan Carr" chronicles the life and career of one of the most influential gay men in entertainment. It's possible you don't know of Allan Carr, but knowing his contribution to Hollywood, Broadway, and entertainment is inescapable.

To the public, Grease was Carr's most iconic contribution to the entertainment world. Casting Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta as the lead to the mega-hit. Carr brought La Cage Aux Aolles to Broadway, winning the Tony for Best Musical. His downfall—producing the 61st Academy Awards in 1989 featuring an opening number with Snow White and Rob Lowe. 

Schwarz, know for documentaries including I Am Devine and Tab Hunter Confidential, takes the audience behind the scenes to the extravagant life that Carr led.

It was no secret that Allan Carr was gay, though he never formally acknowledged it publicly. The word “flamboyant” was used to describe him, a code word. He used humor and outrageousness to gain entry into a conservative industry.
