Today we’d like to introduce you to Bea Orteza.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

My story with fitness has come a long way. After I lost 60lbs it became a lifestyle journey for me. I started Beafit fitness line due to my own struggles of finding a good fit and style of compression shorts for my fitness training. I went to all the stores and online but I couldn’t find anything that I like that would fit me as a tomboy style. I like men’s style but they’re always big on me. I decided to create my own performance boxer briefs. I did my research and went to the Magic convention to find a factory who can help me with my new product. I designed my own boxers as a men’s style without the extra pouch in front and with added slip-side pocket but perfectly fit for a woman’s body.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

It took me two years to develop my perfect product. My biggest issues were poor quality/quantity and budget. I wanted to make my products here in the U.S. but the cost is too much and they want a minimum of 3 styles to develop. So I worked hard to finally find a good factory with good quality and will be releasing my second production in March.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BEAFIT – what should we know?

Beafit fitness line is definitely a fitness lifestyle specializing in tomboy style performance boxer briefs. Our mission is to build an LGBTQ supportive community through fitness to help inspire each other physically, emotionally and mentally. I am most proud of the positive impact we are making as a brand in people’s lives. To see them change physically and live happier is the most rewarding part of being a part of their fitness journey.

What sets you apart from different brands out there?

I believe what sets us apart as a brand is that we have real support from each other with our own authentic stories. We all know how hard it is to change but we feel more comfortable with ourselves when we can wear our own style without having to wear men’s clothing.

What does the slogan ‘BEA’ “Be Empowered Always” mean to you?

Being empowered to me is being able to express my true identity and to show it with pride. Having the courage to live my life in full potential. Also, to express my passion and creating a meaningful impact in peoples lives.

Where do you see BEAFIT in 5 years?

I see Beafit in 5 years leading the LGBT fitness community and making a positive change in peoples lives as a brand that helps the LGBT charities and causes.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?

I’ve had a huge support system that I owe to my great friends and family around me. They all support my ideas from day 1 and understand my determination and passion for this brand. Most of all, my great friends Briana and Bakla Mo, who really helped me promote my line and got me into events. We did a 5k hell-a-gay run in Oakland with Nat who owns The Queer Gym. It is super fun to meet people with the same interest. My brothers and Tony who always support my vision and help me with photography and videos. Also, huge support from fitness fam on social media and friends who keep me motivated throughout the years.
